It's hard to believe that it's already been 12 years since this Air Jordan 12 first hit the scene. Dubbed "Melo" at the time due to its resemblance to one of his Player Exclusives, the shoe sports a predominantly white tumbled leather upper, offset by University Blue on the Jumpman embroidery, lining, heel tab and outsole. Unlike the original, that was also created in women’s sizes, this version releasing exclusively in kids’ sizing is accenting by metallic gold instead of silver. The Jordan Air Jordan 12 Retro 'Melo' Grade-School (White/Metallic Gold-University Blue) is available soon at and at a Villa location near you!

Melo 12

Father of the Year

Looks like Christmas has come early this year! Sadly, Jordan is only delivering gifts to the little ones with the Air Jordan 12 Retro ‘Melo’ GS. It’s clear there are some very sad older Jordan fans upset out there who have been waiting on this retro colorway for some time; but on the plus side, there are now some exclusive kicks for the kiddies to brag about to all their friends (might also put some old heads to shame). But why only for the little feet?

It’s no secret that Melo is a phenomenal basketball player, but he is also a dedicated family man. While being married to the beautiful and talented Lala Vasquez-Anthony, they also share a son. Kiyan Anthony is the definition of a natural trendsetter. Not just because he is the product of pure basketball talent, but his cool kid swag has been a driving force in that. Kiyan has become a young star to the runway. For a few years, he’s been in many fashions shows during NYFW, proving he knows what great style is supposed to look like. Just recently, he strutted the runway at the Kids Rock! Fashion Show along with many other children of famous athletes. With both his parents in the front row to see their son show off his moves, it was clear who the real stars in the family were. You just can’t win against the cool-kid cuteness.

That event partnered up with Haddad Brands and The Carmelo Anthony Foundation to raise money to help undeserved kids through education and recreation. Like VILLA, Melo is strongly dedicated to providing a positive future for the community. Granted, this might all not be the reasons behind the exclusivity of the AJ Retro 12 ‘Melo’ GS, but it is safe to say that with Father’s Day quickly approaching this summer, Melo definitely takes home the trophy for Father of the Year!

For Young B-Ballers

Grade School U

Grade-School University:
In the sneaker culture, knowing what looks good is only half the battle. True sneakerheads want to know exactly what they’re putting on their feet and why. It’s essential to educate the Jordan consumer on the ‘story’ of the particular footwear. So, for kids, it should be no different. As young ballers and sneaker fanatics get older, their love for nice kicks grow with them. And because this is a sneaker dedicated to the young future MJs or Carmelo Anthonys of the world, let’s teach them a little lesson.

PE 101 (not to be mistaken for gym class):
PE definition: stands for Player Exclusives; a shoe that was produced under the supervision of a specific athlete and customized with certain colors or patterns that are designed accordingly to the athlete’s team.

Carmelo Anthony has been fortunate enough to be the original Jordan Brand “student” receiving a collection of Air Jordan player exclusives.

Colorway 101:
University Blue/White-Metallic Gold

Earlier on in his career, Melo rocked mostly Denver Nuggets-themed Jordans like the Air Jordan 2 and Air Jordan 12s.

Extra Credit Fact: Michael Jordan’s college colors at the University of North Carolina were White and Carolina Blue, quite similar to this colorway. Coincidence? Not really.

We hope you all took a bit of knowledge from this lesson about the Air Jordan 12 Retro ‘Melo’ GS. Now, go live vicariously through your little one this weekend.
