This weekend was pretty good for sports fans, there just wasn’t any football.

NFL: Well, there was no NFL football this weekend just talked about the Super Bowl. The Steelers and Cardinals will both arrive in Tampa Bay, Florida today to start practicing for the biggest game in football. The Super Bowl is February 1st, 2009 on NBC at 6:28pm ET.

NBA: The Celtics are back in their winning ways as they defeated the Dallas Mavericks 124-100 yesterday. The Lakers faced the Spurs in good match-up and the Lakers came out on top as they won 99-85. The 76ers defeated the Knicks two Saturdays in a row as they won 116-100 on Saturday night. In bad news for the Bucks, Michael Redd suffered a torn ACL/MCL and is done for the rest of the season. Congrats go to Orlando Magic’s center Dwight Howard as he broke the record for most votes for the all-star game by any player at over 3 million.

ELSEWHERE: In college basketball, there were several interesting games and upsets. No. 14 Georgetown was upset yesterday by Seton Hall. This was a bad loss for the Hoyas because they have lost several games this season that they should have won. No. 12 Louisville defeated No. 8 Syracuse 67-57, No. 24 Memphis defeated Tennessee in a close one 54-52, No. 2 Duke demolished Maryland 85-44, No. 3 UCONN snapped No. 19 Notre Dame’s 45-game home winning streak with a 69-61 victory, and Washington upset No. 11 UCLA 86-75. In sad news, NC State women’s head coach Kay Yow past away with a battle with breast cancer. Kay Yow was 66 years old and was battling breast cancer since 1987. Her legacy will live on forever. In boxing, Sugar Shane Mosley defeated Antonio Margarito in a 9th round TKO.
